Wisconsin Badgers’ Defensive End David Gilbert Out 6-8 Weeks

In some bad news for the Wisconsin Badgers the night before their match up with the Nebraska Corn Husker, Badgers defensive end David Gilbert will be out six to eight weeks with a broken foot. Tom Mulhern of Madison.com broke the surprising news late last night. The news came as a surprise because Wisconsin head coach Brett Bielema didn't mention Gilbert at all in his last media session on Thursday afternoon.

Wisconsin is already without starting cornerback Devin Smith for the year, as well as the possibility of starting safety Shelton Johnson missing today's game against Nebraska. Losing another starter on defense will definitely hurt for this game, but also in the long term as Wisconsin gets into the meat of their Big 10 schedule. Gilbert was the Badgers team leader in sacks on the season with three. Junior defensive end Brenden Kelly is expected to start in Gilbert's absence.
