There’s usually not much negative that can be said about 211 yards and 21 points in the first quarter, but Georgia Tech is something of an exception this year -- if they don’t get it in gear, the Yellow Jackets might no longer be the nation’s top team in total and scoring offense. After all, Tech has been scoring more than 53 points and 630 yards a game.

But for right now, the smaller numbers are enough. The Jackets' option offense has staked them out to a 21-7 lead against N.C. State, churning out 162 rushing yards. That includes Orwin Smith's touchdown runs of 13 and nine yards. The other touchdown is the rarely-seen Georgia Tech pass, a connection between Tevin Washington and David Sims for nine yards and a 21-point lead.
The Wolfpack did manage to put together a score late. Mike Glennon, 15-of-23 for 124 yards so far, capped off the drive with a nine-yard touchdown pass to Jay Smith. That came after a 19-play, 81 yard drive that ended up with N.C. State turning the ball over on downs.
