Things haven’t quite gone TCU’s way as the SMU Mustangs jumped out to a 17-0 lead and headed into the half with a 10-point lead, 17-7. The once vaunted TCU defense is struggling again, and the offense hasn’t been able to answer the early punch from the Mustangs in Fort Worth.
SMU Vs. TCU Score: Horned Frogs Stumble Into The Half Down 17-7
Casey Pachall was the master of the dink and dunk in the first half, completing of passes for yards and no touchdowns. He did, however, engineer a solid drive -- with passes of 27 and 19 yards -- to end the half, setting up a field goal to cut the SMU lead to seven. Prior to the drive, Pachall had completed six passes for 28 yards, but perhaps a scoring drive the end the half will be a jumping off point.
J.J. McDermott threw for 182 yards and two touchdowns for the Mustangs in the first half. Terrance Wilkerson caught two passes for 78 yards, scoring on a 71-yard touchdown catch and run in the first quarter. Zach Line carried the ball 11 times for 57 yards to compliment the pass-heavy attack.
TCU has some work to do, but thanks to a strong second quarter the Horned Frogs enter the half down by only a touchdown after falling into an early hole.
