Melvin Harris Dismissed: The Latest In Ole Miss Roster Management

Ole Miss has let go of junior wide receiver Melvin Harris.

The Mississippi Rebels have said goodbye to wide receiver Melvin Harris, head coach Houston Nutt announced Tuesday. The junior hadn't made much of an impact this season, catching only three passes for 21 yards -- good for ninth on the team -- but was second among all Rebels in 2010 with 408 yards.

Nutt expects Harris to transfer to a Division I-AA program, which would free him up to play next year without skipping a beat. As is custom, no particular reason was cited for the roster management*, though Nutt said his coaching staff tried to “help” Harris during the receiver’s three years in Oxford. People like it when Nutt says “help.”

Considering Harris’ lack of production this year, his exit won’t have much of an impact on the rest of Ole Miss’ season.

* No, that’s not an oversigning joke. Ole Miss just always has lots of people coming and going.
