Night games at LSU are kinda a big deal. Ever since 1931, the majority of LSU Tigers home games have been played in the evening and the team has always fared better at night (.773 winning percentage) than daytime (.476). In fact, since 1960, LSU has only played during the day in Tiger Stadium 45 times.
Tragedy Strikes, LSU Fans Forced To Watch Football During The Day
You can imagine that LSU fans have gotten accustom to the whole night thing. So when the 2011 TV schedule was released and the Tigers had nary an evening home game, they were less-then-thrilled.
For the first time since 1935, no SEC home games will be played under the lights of Tiger Stadium and the uproar has been so loud that LSU AD Joe Alleva had to take to an open letter to explain how this tragedy had befallen Tiger Faithful.
...with success comes a price, and in this case the price is afternoon kickoffs instead of night football. CBS will always take the game it deems to be the most interesting and that will often involve teams that are playing at the highest level.
In other words, LSU is a victim of it’s own success.
And so, LSU fans will be left to fend for themselves on fall Saturday evenings, roaming wild on the streets of Baton Rogue without purpose or cause. This will not end well.
