College Football Rankings: Stanford Keeps Pac-12 Banner High Despite Drop In Week 6

Stanford’s one of a handful of Pac-12 teams in the Week 6 college football rankings, but the Week 6 AP Poll Top 25 and the Week 6 USA Today coaches poll aren’t too kind to the Cardinal.

The coaches poll awards Stanford its No. 4 ranking, but by the slimmest possible margin: the Cardinal are one point ahead of Wisconsin, 1,237 to 1,236. And the AP Poll isn’t so kind, slotting Stanford at No. 7.

That’s not the distance the Cardinal likely wanted to put on Oregon (No. 9 in both polls) before the two Pac-12 heavyweights met on the field, and it could hurt Stanford’s chances of recovering to become a BCS at-large candidate should the Ducks win that meeting in a rout. (Oregon, it should be noted, is benefiting from a valiant early loss to a great team, and ascending the college football rankings slowly but surely.)

The only other ranked Pac-12 team? Arizona State (No. 22 AP/No. 24 coaches), which took down lowly Oregon State.
