Alabama Vs. Tennessee 2011: Third Saturday In October Series Record, Quick Facts

No. 2 Alabama looks to extend its unbeaten season and four-game winning streak against Tennessee in the Third Saturday in October, on the fourth Saturday in October this week.

In a series riddled with long winning streaks and bouts of dominance, this year the No. 2 Crimson Tide and robot overlord Nick Saban look to continue their winning ways over the Volunteers. They’ve won the last four in convincing fashion — they’re beating everyone in convincing fashion nowadays — and this season is as grim as any in Knoxville.

It’s named the Third Saturday in October for obvious reasons, but since the SEC split into East and West Divisions in 1995, it’s only actually been played on the third Saturday in October five times, and that number will stay the same this year (damn you, October 1!). Despite the now-ironic name of the rivalry, this is still a matchup with historic opponents and, in the wacky SEC, anything can happen (though, in the SEC East, that anything is really just injuries).

The Vols, 3-3, are just trying to become bowl eligible at this point in the brutal SEC schedule. After winning 13 games in the combined two years, Vols fans’ expectations are lowered, but they still want this one, bad.

Series record: Alabama leads, 48-37

Last year’s result: Alabama won, 41-10

Current streak: Alabama has won the last four

Longest-ever streak: Alabama won 11 from 1972-1982

First meeting: Nov. 26, 1903
