Illinois Vs. Purdue Final Score: Boilermakers Pull Off Upset At Home

The Illinois Fighting Illini entered Saturday's game against the Purdue Boilermakers ranked No. 23 in the nation. That won't be the case when Sunday's new NCAA football rankings come out, however, as Illinois fell 21-14 at Ross-Aide Stadium in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Illinois put up a late touchdown to make the score 21-14 when quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase rushed two yards into the end zone, but the ensuing onside kick was recovered by Purdue and the game was all but over as the Boilermakers needed to just run out the clock and force the Fighting Illini to use their final two timeouts.

Purdue took a 21-0 lead into halftime thanks to a pair of touchdown throws from Caleb TerBush and a 21-yard run from Raheem Mostert capped off the first half scoring. TerBush finished the game with 178 yards through the air and the aforementioned two touchdowns.

In the end, though, it was the Fighting Illini that just didn’t look good on Saturday afternoon as opposed to Purdue looking great. Scheelhaase threw zero touchdowns and one interception as the Illini converted on just six of their 17 third-down conversion attempts. It was Illinois’ second loss in a row, following last week’s defeat at the hands of Ohio State after the Illini started the season undefeated.
