Heisman Trophy 2011 Watch: Andrew Luck’s Stock Rising With Stanford

Stanford ran over Washington, and Andrew Luck didn’t have to do much in the romp. But the Cardinal winning can only be good for their signal-caller’s Heisman Trophy chances.

The race for the 2011 Heisman Trophy is about half over, and the guy in the lead might well be the same as the one who was the presumptive favorite entering the season. At the very least, Andrew Luck's stock is certainly on the rise.

Luck threw for just 176 yards and two touchdowns against Washington in Stanford’s 65-21 obliteration of the Huskies, but he didn’t need to do much, as the Cardinal tallied a staggering 446 rushing yards in the romp. And Luck playing for a team that’s playing well might be just as valuable as him putting up eye-popping numbers.

That result might have done wonders for Stanford's BCS prospects, and that's going to help Luck in the long run. The last Heisman Trophy winner who didn't play for a national championship was Tim Tebow in 2007, and while Stanford isn't exactly a shoo-in this year, it stands to reason that the closer Stanford is to the national title, the better Luck will look in Heisman voters' eyes.
