For the first time all season, the Stanford Cardinals fell behind in a game. The Cardinal had yet to trail through the first seven weeks of the season, but all that changed as the second half began in Los Angeles. And it was all thanks to the Curtis McNeal show.
Stanford Vs. USC Score Update: Trojans Throwing Haymakers In Second Half
McNeal found himself thrust into a starring role for the Trojans after Marc Tyler was ruled out with an arm injury. USC is thin at running back already, but McNeal has stepped up in a big way in the second half. His 61-yard touchdown run gave the Trojans the lead and his 25-yard touchdown run shortly thereafter added to it.
But Stanford did fight back, perhaps weathering the storm at the Coliseum. Andrew Luck found Ryan Hewitt to cap a 75-yard scoring drive, cutting the Trojans lead to three at 20-17.
As expected, this game has been the Cardinal’s biggest test, with USC standing right with Stanford through just about three quarters.
