As feared, Florida Gators quarterback John Brantley will miss the team's Saturday game against the LSU Tigers, head coach Will Muschamp confirmed at Monday's press conference. He provided no further details on the nature of the player's injury, other than that it's a lower leg injury.
John Brantley Injury Update: Out Vs. LSU, Says Will Muschamp
Gators blog Alligator Army looks on the bright side, sort of:
That certainly sounds like an injury that can be evaluated on a week-to-week basis, which tends toward confirmation of the reports that Brantley’s injury is a high ankle sprain.
Moments before, Brantley was seen walking in a boot with crutches.
Muschamp also confirmed true freshman Jeff Driskel will get the start against LSU, which should only be slightly more terrifying than being thrown into the middle of a game against the Alabama Crimson Tide. Driskel took over for Brantley at halftime after the starter went down due to what appeared to be a knee injury. He struggled to complete passes, finding two receivers in six attempts, but flashed a nice bit of athleticisim. He will need it all.
The Florida coach also noted all three Gators quarterbacks will get reps in practice this week.
