For the non-fiend, there are really only two interesting kinds of college football spreads to talk about: big lines and big movers. The game of the week is the former, but not quite yet the latter. Still, the Oklahoma Sooners opened the week favored by 9.5 over the Texas Longhorns, which has already shrunk to an even 9.
College Football Odds, Week 6: Texas, UNC, Tennessee Among Early Picks
As always, head right here for college football odds updates throughout the week.
Elsewhere in early-week adjustments, the North Carolina Tar Heels have gained a full three points on the Louisville Cardinals already, and are now favored by 15.5. Southern Miss opened the week minus-1 versus the Navy Midshipmen, but the Middies have swung that line the other way, and the Tennessee Volunteers are now in a pick 'em against the Georgia Bulldogs after being one-point underdogs.
One to keep an eye on: the Virginia Tech Hokies were 8.5-point favorites over the Miami Hurricanes, but that spread is down to a solid touchdown. Both teams looked awful on Saturday, but Miami's unseen, 45-14 victory against Bethune-Cookman likely inspires more confidence than VT's 23-3 setback against the Clemson Tigers. The score looks prettier, at least.
Little teams, big line. This week may also provide your only chance this year to watch a Middle Tennessee spread increase rapidly. The Blue Raiders are now 9.5-point favorites against Western Kentucky.
Spread of the week honors go to the Oklahoma St. Cowboys, who are favored by 33 points over the Kansas Jayhawks, followed by the Alabama Crimson Tide at minus-28.5 against the Vanderbilt Commodores.
