ESPN’s Alabama-Florida Documentary Trailer And All Of Human History
ESPN has a documentary on the first SEC Championship Game, the 1992 showdown between Gene Stallings' undefeated Alabama Crimson Tide and the Florida Gators, who'd invented college football two years prior. The film centers around Antonio Langham's interception of Shane Matthews, which stunted a Florida comeback and assured the eventual national champs of a spot in the de facto title game. Sounds great!
So why does the trailer need to start off with string-heavy collages of Bill Clinton, Kurt Cobain and Rodney King?
A president was elected, a musician made polarizing music and cops beat up a black guy. These things happen pretty frequently. Kinda feel like you could pick any year in all of human history except for 1734 and describe it as a year in which the world was changing. This calls for an experiment!
Used a random number generator to pick a number between 1 and 2011. It gave me 274. In the year 274, the pope died, Rome pretty much installed the first Christmas, and the empire lost the Rhine to Germanic tribes.
I realize all that's not quite as important as a Shane Matthews pass. Just saying ESPN could probably tone it down a little.
