Garrett Gilbert Transferring From Texas; Could SMU Be A Destination?

Garrett Gilbert is reportedly transferring from Texas, and may end up at SMU to complete his eligibility.

University of Texas quarterback Garrett Gilbert is now a former University of Texas quarterback and will be transferring, according to a report. Gilbert started all 12 games in 2010, then began the season as the Longhorns' starter before losing his job and being demoted all the way to third-string in mid-September.

The news comes from Kirk Bohls, who also speculates on Gilbert’s eligibility and possible landing spots.

Just two weeks ago, the Longhorns announced Gilbert would miss the rest of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery, and he should be eligible for a medical hardship waiver. Gilbert reportedly visited an SMU practice this week, though he still has plenty of time to make a final decision.
