Oregon Vs. Cal Score: Zach Maynard Settles Down, Darron Thomas Struggles

The Oregon Ducks jumped out to an early lead in their Thursday night matchup with the California Golden Bears, thanks to LaMichael James’ lengthy touchdown to answer a Cal field goal. As James and the Ducks scored first quarter touchdowns, the Bears plodded along, putting up three points at a time after stalling in Oregon territory multiple times to open the game. But with the offense moving slow and steady, the Cal defense began to find its groove, eventually shutting down the Ducks en route to a 15-14 lead.

A Zach Maynard touchdown pass to Keenan Allen in the second quarter is the difference in the game, and was the first time the Bears were able to find the end zone. Cal went for two and missed, but hold a one-point advantage at the half. As inconsistent as he was, Maynard may have been the better quarterback in the first half, completing 11 of 23 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown.

James rushed for 166 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries, but was slowed by some kind of hamstring injury at the half. Darron Thomas was inconsistent and ineffective for the most part, completing eight of 19 passes for 101 yards and an interception.
