Jeff Driskel Injury: Expected To Start Vs. LSU Despite Ankle Injury

Florida Gators quarterback Jeff Driskel is expected to start against LSU today, but it was never officially announced by the team during the week. This led many to think it was just some gamesmanship by Florida head coach Will Muschamp, but it turns out Driskel was dealing with an ankle injury of his own. According to Nate Geirke, Driskel's high school coach, Driskel wore a protective boot and was in a lot of pain on Sunday following the loss to Alabama.

“He was hurting, and I’m sure, if he hasn’t been in the film room this week, he’s been in the training room,” Gierke told the Orlando Sentinel. “When you come to an ankle injury, especially when Jeff relies on his legs quite a bit, I’m sure he’s doing everything he can. He said he’s getting better every day with his ankle.”

On Wednesday when head coach Will Muschamp talked to the media via conference call, he did not indicate that the ankle injury would be a problem.

Also worth noting, Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel indicated on his Twitter account that according to Channel 6 in Orlando, freshman Jacoby Brissett would be starting against LSU and not Jeff Driskel. If Brissett does in fact start, the plan to redshirt him this season would go out the window.

Against #LSU, #Gators to start Jacoby Brissett at QB, not Driskel. This according to Orlando's Channel 6. Thoughts?
