Oklahoma started its Red River Shootout Rivalry game against Texas strong, but the Sooners couldn’t put a touchdown on the board after stalling in the red zone. Michael Hunnicutt booted a 26-yard field goal to give Oklahoma its first score of the game and a 3-0 lead.
Oklahoma Vs. Texas Score: Sooners Strike First With Field Goal
Landry Jones led the Sooners on a seven-play, 62-yard drive that featured four passes for 68 yards, but he failed to connect on his fifth pass, a fade to Kenny Stills, and Oklahoma was forced to kick a field goal.
The drive took 2:46 and included Oklahoma taking its first timeout before that final third down with goal to go. The quick drive is sort of a staple of the Oklahoma offense; timeouts to slow the tempo are decidedly not.
