The West Virginia Mountaineers were nearly put on upset alert heading into halftime of their game against the Connecticut Huskies, but a late touchdown run from Dustin Garrison allowed the home crowd in Morgantown to not be too depressed heading into halftime. The No. 16 ranked Mountaineers have a 10-9 lead at halftime.

The Mountaineers picked up a field goal midway through the first quarter, but their next three drives ended with a fumble and a pair of punts as the UConn kick team put up a pair of field goals to give themselves a 6-3 late in the second quarter. West Virginia then decided to get its offense into the end zone, however.
The only touchdown-scoring drive of the first half wasn't pretty as it began with two straight incompletions from Geno Smith and included a holding penalty inside the red zone, but when all was said and done, Garrison was able to find the end zone with a 14-yard trot to paydirt with 2:44 left in the half. Garrison rushed eight times for 32 yards in the first half.
Connecticut kicker Dave Teggart kicked his third field goal of the first half through the uprights at the first half's time expired to bring his team within one.
Neither team has put up any sort of exciting offensive statistics on the ground or through the air, either as Smith is 15-of-24 for 177 yards while his Huskies rival, Johnny McEntee, is 11-of-17.
