Geno Smith had a pretty quiet first half for the West Virginia Mountaineers, but the quarterback has started the second half off well against the Connecticut Huskies. There was an upset alert earlier in Morgantown, but the current 24-9 score should alleviate some of those worries.
West Virginia Vs. Connecticut Score: Geno Smith Pass Widens Mountaineers Lead
Smith connected with Tavon Austin on a 12 yard touchdown pass on the second Mountaineers drive of the second half, though he didn't have to work all that long to make it happen. The drive began on the Huskies' 12-yard line after Pat Miller forced UConn quarterback Tyler McEntee to fumble before Jewone Snow picked it up and took it 78 yards the other way before the West Vriginia linebacker was stopped. Following a Huskies punt, Smith tossed an 84-yard touchdown pass to Stedman Bailey, 40 of those yards coming after the catch as he burned up the field.
Smith has passed for 307 yards on 33 attempts on his way to willing West Virginia away from the upset alert.
