Connecticut Vs. West Virginia Final Score: Mountaineers Strong Second Half Stifles Huskies

The West Virginia Mountaineers didn't get off to the greatest start on Saturday, but a strong second half ensured the team from Morgantown wouldn't be upset by the Connectictut Huskies. In fact, it was all West Virginia in the second half as they rolled to a 43-16 victory at home.

The Mountaineers entered the week ranked No. 16 and, thanks to inspired second half play from quarterback Geno Smith, they will head into the top 15 when the rankings come out again on Sunday. Smith went to the air 45 times on Saturday, throwing for 450 yards and four touchdowns -- all of which came in the second half. His top option was speedy wideout Stedman Bailey as the sophomore finished the day with 178 receiving yards and seven receptions, two of which resulted in touchdowns.

The Huskies were unable to get anything going after kicker Dave Teggart kept his team close with three first half field goals to keep UConn within just one point as the halftime score was 10-9. The only other score for the Huskies came when Ty-Meer Brown returned an errant pass from Paul Millard -- the back-up quarterback for West Virginia -- for 48 yards and a touchdown.
