If South Carolina needed a pick-me-up after last week’s demoralizing upset against Auburn, they could have hardly found a better candidate than Kentucky. Throw in the revenge factor after the deflating loss to Kentucky last year, and even the Wildcats knew they would face an angry South Carolina team this week.
South Carolina Vs. Kentucky Final: Gamecocks Level Kentucky, 54-3
The Gamecocks delivered, piling up 639 yards and allowing only an early field goal in a 54-3 annihilation of the ‘Cats. Kentucky’s beleaguered offense eked out a minute 96 yards of total offense, answering the questions of Kentucky fans who had begun to wonder if it could get any worse.
Connor Shaw's second start of the season at quarterback might have helped the team's stars as well as its stock. Marcus Lattimore had 22 carries for 102 yards after getting the ball just 17 times last week, and wideout Alshon Jeffery seemed a step closer to breaking out of an early slump with six catches for 95 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Shaw was 26-of-39 for 311 yards and 4 touchdowns. Two other quarterbacks attempted a pass for South Carolina -- neither of them was former starter Stephen Garcia.
