Miami Vs. Virginia Tech Final Score: Hokies Hold On To Win Wild One, 38-35

If you stopped watching the Miami-Virginia Tech game around halftime, you missed a second half that was -- memorable -- to say the least. Let’s stay with memorable.

Virginia Tech roared out to an early 21-7 lead in the first half, and seemed ready to basically breeze past the Hurricanes. Then things got strange. At one point late in the fourth quarter, Miami had outscored the Hokies 28-10 to take a 35-31 lead, scoring the last two touchdowns on a wide receiver pass and a 30-yard run.

The Hokies countered with an eight-play, 77-yard drive that ended when Logan Thomas took a quarterback draw 19 yards to cap off a great day. Thomas was 23-of-25 for 310 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 38 yards and two more scores.

But Miami got the ball back with 56 seconds left and Jacory Harris playing one of the best games he'd played in a long time -- he was 13-of-21 for 267 yards and three touchdowns by the time it was over. The final drive quickly turned into a mess, though, and with five seconds on the clock, Harris scrambled around until time expired. He then chose to throw it to a man who was maybe five yards past the line of scrimmage -- which was the Miami 45-yard line.

The win gives Virginia Tech new life in the ACC Coastal race after losing to Clemson last week; no team has ever gone 0-2 in league play and won one of the ACC’s geographically illogical conferences. That’s now what Miami has done -- meaning the Hurricanes’ seasons will likely have more disappointment than just the NCAA questions now swirling around the program.
