Glen Mason Denies New Mexico Coaching Report

Former Minnesota Golden Gopher head coach Glen Mason is denying the report made by 610 the Sports Animal out of Albuquerque that he will be the new head football coach at New Mexico, replacing Mike Locksley.

Mason's hiring was said to be announced at a Wednesday press conference, this according to KOB channel 4. Gophers athletics director Joel Maturi even said Tuesday that he thought New Mexico would hire Mason shortly.

However, Mason took to Twitter Tuesday to refute the report:

"The rumors are not correct," Mason wrote on his Twitter account, @BTNGlenMason. "I am honored to being mentioned at NMU however I do not have interest at this time."

Mason's last job at Minnesota saw him go 64-57 from 1997 - 2006 before he was fired. Mason went 3-4 in bowl games and his best year was in 2003 when Minnesota finished 10-3 which was good enough for a fourth place tie in the Big 10. Prior to Minnesota, Mason spent eight years as the Kansas Jayhawks head coach from1998-95 where he had a record of 47-54-1 and prior to that two years at Kent State.

Mason is currently a Big Ten Network football analyst.
