It wasn't easy, despite Bowling Green's 4-7 record entering Wednesday night, but the Ohio Bobcats, despite being down two points with time ticking down, kicked a field goal — their fifth of the game — as time expired, clinching a berth in the MAC Championship Game with a 29-28 victory. Thanks to Western Michigan defeating Miami (OH), the Bobcats will play for the championship in some high-pressure MACtion!
Ohio Defeats Bowling Green With FG As Time Expires, Wins MAC East
The MVP of this game was clearly Ohio kicker Matt Weller, who scored 15 of the Bobcats' 29 points, going 5-6 on field goals, including a 49-yarder, a 24-yard field goal before halftime and a 23-yarder to win the game. Behind quarterback Tyler Tettleton, who threw for 194 yards and a touchdown and ran for 101 yards and another score, the Bobcats were able to battle back against Bowling Green's potent offense.
Falcons quarterback Matt Schilz tossed three touchdowns in the loss, an impressive performance for his team considering they finish the season at 4-8, yet were in a position to beat the potential MAC champions.
