Texas A&M Emails Reveal Bill Byrne’s ESPN Concerns, Fondness For Nicknames

The Dallas Morning News has shared with the world a raft of leaked documents from Texas A&M’s offices, including a brochure-speak application letter to the SEC and Ken Starr’s plea for the Aggies to not leave the Big 12, but the humdinger is athletic director Bill Byrne’s list of complaints about Texas, the Longhorn Network, and ESPN.

Here’s the Byrne email in its entirety:

First, it’s important to note tu is apparently in the official A&M style manual. One had assumed the slur name (somehow, that’s a slur) for the University of Texas was restricted to especially little brothers and forum dwellers, but it seems the cancer goes straight to the top.

There are plenty of alarming claims in there, from Texas AD DeLoss Dodds bragging (according to Byrne) that he’s got ESPN under control to Byrne’s claims that ESPN “threatened” Texas Tech into playing on the Longhorn Network, along with an alleged conspiracy of sorts between FOX and ESPN. And Byrne of course shares everyone else’s worry that the Longhorn Network will alter ESPN’s non-LHN coverage of Texas sports.

But, mainly, he keeps saying “tu.” Can’t really get past that. We’ll presume Dodds’ own emails use “aggy” liberally, though, so there are no real winners here.
