A week of utter BCS chaos did not leave the lower bowl games unaffected, but at least the carnage was more subdued. We even got a measure of stability, with both BYU and Arkansas State already accepting bowl bids. Only ... yeah, still almost 70 more to go. But it’s a start.
Bowl Projections, Week 13: At Least The SEC Rematch Will Be Better Than The Orange Bowl
SB Nation will have superior bowl projections out on Monday, but for now, here’s an attempt to make sense of the scenarios.
A handful of conferences will be taking more or less than their share, and slotting teams into other conference’s positions goes beyond the available calculus and enters the realm of psychology. But wheeeeeee!
How’s that happen? Conference USA has seven affiliated bowl bids, for example, but will almost certainly have only five eligible teams, once ECU or Marshall takes out the other. The Big Ten, meanwhile, has eight spots in which to cram nine or even 10 teams, depending on Purdue. The SEC might not be able to fill its Compass obligations if it sends two to the title game and thus three to the BCS, which is farfetched, but can happen.
