UCF Lets Defensive Coordinator John Skladany, Two Other Assistant Coaches Walk

George O’Leary will need to replace much of his staff after an underwhelming 2011 season.

UCF went 5-7 in 2011, regressing from two consecutive years of bowl eligibility under George O’Leary. Because of this, Knights defensive coordinator John Skladany, linebackers coach Al Seamonson, and director of player personnel Albert Boone are all out of work, having been informed on Saturday that they would not be brought back in 2012, according to Iliana Limón of the Orlando Sentinel.

Skladany and Seamonson were responsible for a defense that allowed just 18.3 points per game in 2011, but gave up 24 or more points in five of the Knights’ final seven games of the season, and lost all five of those games. The Knights recorded two shutouts on the year, but they came against FCS team Charleston Southern and woeful Memphis.

All three men were working on one-year contracts. UCF was already in need of a replacement for wide receivers coach David Kelly, who was part of an NCAA investigation into UCF’s recruiting practices.
