Steve Spurrier To Coach South Carolina ‘About Three More Years’

Steve Spurrier announced that he would like to coach South Carolina for three more years on his radio show Thursday.

Rumors of South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier retiring started swirling this week that the Ol' Ball Coach was considering retiring at the end of the 2011 season. Spurrier took his radio call-in show Thursday to debunk those rumors and say exactly what his plan is for the future.

“I really hope to coach about three more years.”

Spurrier is in his sixth season as the head coach at South Carolina where he is 51-34 and 193–74–2 overall. He currently has the Gamecocks one win shy of an all-time best sixth SEC win in a season and took the team to it’s first SEC Championship Game last season.

Spurrier is already in the College Football Hall of Fame as a player but it would easy to make a case for him as a coach as well. Between his work at Duke, Florida and South Carolina, he has seven SEC Coach of the Year Awards, six SEC Championships, seventeen bowl appearances and one National Title.
