SEC Championship 2011, Georgia Vs. LSU: Tigers Running Back Kenny Hillard A Key Cog In Offense

Inactive for much of the season, LSU Tigers freshman running back Kenny Hilliard has become a vital and important element of the offense, Luke Johnson of The Times-Picayune notes.

Hilliard, whose uncle Dalton played at LSU and then in the NFL with the New Orleans, had just five carries for 26 yards over the first half of the season, but has emerged the last five weeks, rushing for 241 yards and six touchdowns, including a 102-yard and a touchdown effort in last week's win over the Arkansas Razorbacks.

“That’s what we preach, to punish. You punish anybody that gets in your way,” Hilliard said of his running style. “Don’t try to lose yards, just run forward. That’s what I do.”

The 5-foot-11, 230-pound Hilliard is the third Tigers running back to rush for 100+ yards in a game this season and LSU will need his bruising style against the Georgia Bulldogs, who rank third in the SEC and sixth in the nation in rush defense, allowing just 94.8 yards per game on the ground.
