West Virginia Vs. USF Final Score: Mountaineers Secure Share Of Big East Title With Win

It took a frenetic finish and a last-second field goal, but West Virginia secured a share of the Big East title with a 30-27 win over South Florida. Tyler Bitancurt hit his third, and certainly most important, field goal of the night as time expired after West Virginia drove deep into West Virginia territory with the clock winding down to take the win.

The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth battle, with South Florida taking a 27-20 win on an interception return for a touchdown midway through the quarter. But the Mountaineers answered back, tying the game on a five-yard touchdown run by Dustin Garrison with just over five minutes to go.

B.J. Daniels had South Florida driving late in the fourth, but a costly mistake gave Geno Smith and the ‘Eers one more shot at the win. Daniels fumbled the ball in West Virginia territory and the Mountaineers pounced.

Smith threaded a beautiful throw into heavy coverage to set West Virginia up in field goal range. A spike with three seconds to go stopped the clock, allowing Bitancourt and the field goal team to get onto the field for the game-winning field goal try.

West Virginia is now ensured a share of the Big East title, though it will need some help to secure the conference’s BCS bowl.
