Orange Bowl 2012: Clemson WR Sammy Watkins Bowl Eligibility Not An Issue

Clemson Tigers star freshman wide receiver Sammy Watkins was investigated by NCAA about his eligibility for the Orange Bowl after attending a planned Christmas party in a southwest Florida restaurant.

Clemson sports information director Tim Bourret said the school’s compliance office would send a cease-and-desist notice to Price today. “This should have no effect on Sammy Watkins’ eligibility for the Orange Bowl,” Bourret said.

Watkins, along with four other college football players, were listed as “hosts” for the ‘Naughty or Nice X-Mas Party,’ scheduled for Dec. 23 at The Firepit Grill. A local DJ claimed that he had permission to use the players names on the flier for the party, but was later notified by one of the players that their names needed to be removed.

Broderick Jenkins of West Virginia was also one of the players who’s names appeared on the “host” list. Both players are expected to be available for the Orange Bowl, however.
