The exodus from Randy Edsall's Maryland football team continued on Wednesday as news came out that offensive coordinator Gary Crowton would not be back next year and wide receiver Adrian Coxson would become the 21st player to leave the team since Edsall's hiring. The Terrapins are coming off a disastrous season in which they followed up a 9-4 campaign with a 2-10 record during Edsall's first season. Edsall was hired after Maryland athletic director Kevin Anderson was reportedly ordered not to hire Mike Leach.

The two departures are probably indicative of different elements on unrest. While Coxson’s decision to leave the program will likely be seen as a mark against Edsall, it would appear that Maryland fans will look far more positively upon Crowton leaving. Maryland blog the Testudo Times certainly seems to be happy about Croxson, in any case:
Whether this is Crowton leaving of his own volition or Randy Edsall/Kevin Anderson forcing him out, I don’t know, although I’m almost certain it will be painted as the former. No matter what, the first change that needed to made was just made. It’s a start, at least.
