5A: Miami Norland Leads Crawfordville Wakulla 7-0 In First Quarter

Miami Norland is loaded with talented players and it is showing early, as the Vikings lead 7-0.

Norland is led by running back Duke Johnson. He may not be the best prospect in the state, but he is by far the best high school player in Florida. Johnson fumbled early, but Norland held and forced a Walkulla punt. Norland’s resulting drive went for 70 yards on 15 plays. Norland used Johnson as a decoy on many of the plays, gashing Wakulla as the Eagles overreacted to Duke’s motion to the slot receiver position.

Walkulla is a scrappy bunch, but Norland has a higher caliber of athlete on its roster. And Norland is the more veteran team, as well.

Also on Norland are Ereck Flowers, an offensive lineman committed to Miami, Keith Brown, a top linebacker who is undecided, and Teko Powell, a top defensive lineman.

Brown is expected to visit Louisville this weekend.
