Visesio ‘Junior’ Salt Commits To Florida Gators

Florida gets its massive nose tackle!

Visesio “Junior” Salt, one of the top JUCO defensive tackles in the country, has committed to the Florida Gators. Salt, who stars for Walnut, California’s Mt. San Antonio Community College, stands 6’3” and weighs in at 340 pounds. H/t: Andrew Spivey of Gator Country.

The services are split on Salt. Some see him as a four-star defensive tackle. Others believe he should play offensive guard. Colleges are equally split. Cal offered him as an offensive guard, while Miami, Utah and Florida offered for defensive tackle.

From AllBuffs.com:

Originally from Sandy, Utah, the mammoth lineman committed to UNLV out of high school in 2006, decided to go on a Mormon mission, changed his mind and wanted to go to Utah but couldn’t get a qualifying test score. He was a JUCO all-american for Mt. SAC last year as an OL, but he prefers defense and will play there this year (they had a logjam at the position in 2010).

Salt will have two years to play and will enroll early for spring ball.

This is a big get for the Florida Gators, as Will Muschamp needs a nose guard for his defense to function at the highest possible level. It also means that UF can keep Sharrif Floyd at five-tech, where is a mismatch for most opposing offensive linemen. Floyd might have been forced to slide back inside if UF failed to land a JUCO nose guard in this class. It’s also a big get for UF over the ‘Canes, as Miami insiders had written off Salt due to distance. The commitment to Florida shows that distance was not a factor.

Look for UF to continue pursuing JUCO defensive tackle Damien Jacobs, as well.
