The Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl announced that beginning in 2012, the Mountain West Conference will replace the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) as the new conference tie-in for the annual bowl game.

This week's announcement does not come as a surprise, as the Hawai'i Warriors are moving from the WAC to the Mountain West Conference in 2012.

“As we celebrate the first 10 years of the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl, we also look to the future,” said David Matlin, Executive Director of the bowl. “With the University of Hawai‘i moving to the Mountain West in 2012, the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl is proud to announce an affiliation with the MW that will allow the Warriors opportunities, when eligible, to continue participating in a game that means so much, to so many in the islands.”

Conference USA remains the other conference tie-in to the Hawai’i Bowl. With Conference USA and the Mountain West Conference discussing a football-only merger, the Hawai’i Bowl could one day be an inter-conference game.
