In their season finale, the 5-6 UConn Huskies will travel to Ohio to take on the 8-3 Cincinnati Bearcats to try to reach bowl eligibility in their first season of FCS football without former coach Randy Edsall.

Led by another 1,000-yard running back — this year's version is freshman Lyle McCombs and his 1,109 yards and 7 touchdowns — the Huskies have struggled to maintain any level of consistency, failing to win consecutive games at any point in the season. If they want to make it to another bowl game, they'll ahve to do it for the first time, as they're coming off a 40-22 victory over Rutgers in their last contest.

The Bearcats lost to the Scarlet Knights just two weeks ago, but aside from that game, have consistently beaten teams they were supposed to, losing to Tennessee and West Virginia. Led by a 1,000-yard back of their own in Isaiah Pean, and in their first year without former coach, the Bearcats have proved they’re an above-average team.

Thanks to Bill Connelly, here’s the breakdown of the Big East Championship, for which Cincinnati is very much in the running:

The Big East title scenario is as follows:

-- If UConn beats Cincinnati, Louisville is Big East champion.
-- If Cincinnati beats UConn and USF beats West Virginia, Cincinnati is Big East champion.
-- If Cincinnati beats UConn and West Virginia beats USF, West Virginia is (probably) Big East champion. At this point, BCS ranking is the tie-breaker, and WVU is currently the only Big East team ranked in the BCS Top 25.

Game date, time: 12 pm ET, Saturday, Dec. 3

Location: Nippert Stadium, Cincinnati, Ohio

TV channel: ESPN/ESPN3

Spread: Cincinnati favored by 8.5

Series history: Cincinnati leads, 5-2
