Oregon State freshman Fred Thompson passed away Wednesday after suffering a heart attack. Thompson was just four days away from his 20th birthday.

The powerful freshman, who redshirted this year after withstanding a shoulder injury in training camp, hailed from Richmond, California. When he signed with the Beavers, he said, “I can’t remember the last time I cried. The last time I cried was probably at my dad’s funeral.”
Oregon State fans at Building the Dam either faced the news late Wednesday or are waking up to it Thursday morning. They’re understandably shaken, as are cross-state Oregon Ducks fans at Addicted to Quack.
