The Northern Iowa Panthers are the higher-ranked team in Friday’s FCS playoff quarterfinal against the Montana Grizzlies, but as the 5-seed they are apparent underdogs. Recent history would suggest that they should be, with the Panthers having gone 1-3 in their last four quarterfinal games on the road, and 0-4 all-time against the Grizzlies. UNI head coach Mark Farley certainly won’t be taking the Grizzlies lightly, though he does see a lot of similarities between the two teams.

The Montana Grizzlies will be favored when they host the Northern Iowa Panthers during Friday night’s quarterfinal of the 2011 FCS Playoffs. Panthers head coach Mark Farley will be pursuing his 100th career win at UNI.
“I think Montana is similar. In fact, their expectations are very similar. Whey they go into a season, they expect to win. When they go into a football game, they expect to win. I think that’s what separates them from a lot of teams that we line up against,” Farley observed.
Farley is in his 11th season with the Panthers. He will earn his 100th career victory with a win. Friday’s game kicks off at 8:05 p.m. ET on ESPN, with the rest of the quarterfinal matchups to be played on Saturday. SB Nation has the full television schedule of this weekend’s games.
