North Dakota State Vs. Lehigh, 2011 FCS Playoffs: NDSU Hoping To Rearrange Schedule

North Dakota State may have to move its winter commencement should they win and have to host a semifinal game next weekend. Lehigh’s Chris Lum will lead a potent offense intent on pulling off an upset.

The North Dakota State administration apparently didn’t have much faith in the football team to make a run in the 2011 FCS Playoffs. With a win over the Lehigh Mountain Hawks during Saturday’s quarterfinal, NDSU would have to host a semifinal game on Saturday, Dec. 16, potentially running up against the school’s winter commencement at 4:00 p.m. that same day. As the tournament’s No. 2 seed, the Bison are expected to move on to the next round to face the winner of Georgia Southern vs. Maine.

Lehigh won't be backing down however, especially with senior Chris Lum leading the offense at quarterback. Lum is a candidate for the Walter Payton Award, given every year to the best offensive player in FCS football, after throwing for 3,739 yards and 15 touchdowns as the Patriot League's Offensive Player of the Year. North Dakota State head coach Chris Bohl had plenty of praise for Lum.

“He is really good; not average, really good,” Bohl said. “This guy’s a cool operator in the pocket and makes very few mistakes. He’s an excellent quarterback and it will be a real challenge coaching against him.“Both teams come into the game at 11-1 and ranked in the Top 10 nationally. Saturday’s game will be broadcast at 4:05 p.m. ET on ESPN3.
