Baylor, Art Briles Agree To Contract Extension, According To Reports

According to reports, Baylor coach Art Briles has received a contract extension after the school’s best season since 1986.

The Baylor Bears are going to reward head coach Art Briles with a multi-year contract extension, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The extension will reportedly earn him more than twice his initial salary upon taking the Baylor job just a few short years ago. Briles’ new annual salary is rumored to be in the neighborhood of $2.5 million, a substantial increase over the $1.2 million plus incentives that he reportedly received when he took the job in 2008.

Briles is 24-25 at Baylor but went 9-3 this season, leading the Bears to the Alamo Bowl. Its the school's second-straight bowl game and the team also features Heisman Trophy candidate QB Robert Griffin III. Baylor defeated Oklahoma for the first time ever and had their most successful season since joining the Big 12.

The nine wins is the most by a Baylor team since the 1986 squad finished the season with a 9-3 record

Baylor blog Our Daily Bears is estactic over the news.

This is obviously fantastic news for Baylor football, as it means that Briles won’t be leaving any time soon for Texas A&M, Arizona State, UCLA, or anywhere else. I believe that Coach Briles will finish his coaching career at Baylor and will do so having spent a number of his Saturdays in the fall roaming the sidelines of a riverside stadium along the Brazos.
