Despite a fistful of indicators that seem to point to Marqise Lee donning a USC Trojans hat on 2011 National Signing Day, he's not in the fold just yet. The four-star safety from Gardena, California's Junipero Serra High School is being recruited at the ever-popular and nebulous "athlete" position, where he's ranked third nationally by Rivals and tabbed as the No. 4 prospect in the state. He's also a high school basketball star, in case you weren't already impressed, but plans to focus on football, to the delight of fans of young men hitting each other everywhere:
Lee holds offers from over a dozen schools, and has taken visits to Oregon, USC, Miami, and Florida. Cal is also in the mix, and is said to be high on his list of prospective school choices, but the Trojans and 'Canes reportedly hold the edge.
What may push Lee into Lane Kiffin's supple embrace is the verbal commitment to USC by his high school teammate, five-star receiver George Farmer. It the Trojans are successful on this fishing expedition, the pair could end up as one of the rare package deals that actually goes through.
