Jadeveon Clowney’s televised decision to commit to South Carolina was not without its strange moments, which is more or less how these things go. Travis Haney of the Charleston Post and Courier is at South Pointe High School and collecting quotes, and he paints a picture of a teenager who may have made the least worst choice instead of the best.
Jadeveon Clowney On South Carolina Future: ‘It’s Going To Be Big’
From Haney’s Twitter feed:
Clowney said he really liked Alabama, but his mom vetoed it because of distance.
Clowney on what he expects as a freshman: “Playing time ... and making a lot of plays.” Says he’ll start.
Clowney’s mom: “I’m just glad it’s over. I’m tired. ... Maybe I can get some rest now.”
Clowney on Gamecocks’ future: “Oh, it’s going to be big.” Mentions a national championship. Ambitious one, this guy.
Just spent a few minutes talking with Clowney’s mom. Interesting. Sounds like she wanted him to go to Clemson. Liked coaches there better.
Sounds like playing in SEC is what separated Clemson and South Carolina. If Tigers were in SEC, this would have been slam dunk.
Clowney said Clemson had more to offer? I’ve heard a lot of things in past 10 min that make you go, ‘Why did he pick South Carolina?’
If that gives South Carolina fans some pause, they should be comforted by the fact that Clowney’s Letter of Intent has his signature on it, and that he’s not alone, not nearly, in sounding indecisive even after a televised decision. (Remember Cyrus Kouandjio?)
