Nickolas Brassell, a four-star wide receiver with an admirably Dickensian name, has signed a letter of intent to play college football for the Ole Miss Rebels and/or Black Bears. Brassell, a senior at South Panola High School in Batesville, Mississippi, is highly regarded as a top high school football recruit, ranked by Rivals as the second-best prospect in the state. He was offered by five SEC programs (Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Tennessee), as well as Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, and USC.
Alabama was said to be the Rebs’ main competition for Brassell’s services, but home turf won out in the end. Whether this will make a significant dent in the Crimson Tide’s top-ranked recruiting class of 2011 remains to be seen.
