Forget National Signing Day 2011: Which Recruits Will Lead The Class Of 2012?

Yeah, you’ve read every word written on the Internet about this year’s recruiting classes in a glorious National Signing Day haze. But do you have any idea who will lead the Class of 2012 in letters received from starry-eyed coaches and threatening Direct Messages from unscrupulous Twitcruitniks?

That’s right, you don’t, and now that absence is burning a hole in your heart. Don’t worry: we have five candidates for top player in the Class of 2012.

Noah Spence, defensive end, Harrisburg, Penn., Bishop McDevitt High

Profile: Spence is a fast defensive end with good size who could be disruptive as an edge rusher. Has a ton of offers already.

Standout Quality: Has a highlight video that abuses some GarageBand loop, what sounds like a Jay-Z ad-lib, and every filter effect on every camera ever.

Johnathan Gray, running back, Aledo, Texas, Aledo High

Profile: Look, when you’re getting called the most celebrated back in Texas since Adrian Peterson, you might be good.

Standout Quality: Quickness-slash-agility. These highlights are from his sophomore season in 2009, mind you.

Anthony Alford, quarterback, Petal, Miss., Petal High

Profile: Undersized quarterback has still managed to be very effective at the high school level thanks to physical gifts; his substantial baseball talents might mean he doesn’t stick with football.

Standout Quality: Production. Google Anthony Alford and you might find this YouTube account. It’s not him.

Arik Armstead, offensive/defensive lineman, Elk Grove, Calif., Pleasant Grove High

Profile: At 6’8”, 275 pounds, Armstead has the frame and game to dominate on the line. Oh, and he’s already committed to USC.

Standout Qualities: Consumption of oxygen and foodstuffs. Height. General hugeness.

Dorial Green-Beckham, wide receiver, Springfield, Mo., Hillcrest High

Profile: How many wide receivers have you heard of who stand 6’6” and run a 4.4 40 in high school?

Standout Quality: Freakishness is a quality, right?

Any other nominees? Leave them in the comments.
