Oklahoma Football Recruiting Plays Prospect Roulette On National Signing Day

Bob Stoops and his merry band of assistants landed a typically strong class for the Oklahoma Sooners on 2011 National Signing Day, bringing home a relatively small class (17 commits) that put a premium on quality: two Rivals five-star recruits, seven four-stars, and eight three-stars. Two late decommits and two last-minute poachings added a fine layer of entertainment to the day's proceedings: The Sooners lost Cooper Washington to Texas Tech, adding to last week's defection of Brandon Carter to TCU, but swiped DB Bennett Okotcha from Notre Dame and TE Nila Kasitati from Baylor to make up the difference. SB Nation's Crimson and Cream Machine came away happy with the tradeoff:

Without last minutes swapping and midnight hour recruiting National Signing Day wouldn't have the appeal and luster it has. Let's be honest, this is what we wanted. Without stuff like this we wouldn't have guys like Ryan Broyles and Corey Nelson on the roster. When all was said and done the Sooners had swapped two three-star players with two three-star players and the class remained every bit as solid as it was before Brandon Carter ever thought of switching to TCU. It just made finalizing the class that much more fun!
