That nebulous Big 12 TV deal our Iowa State blog was so worked up about last week? The one we packaged with a joke about Dan Beebe’s personal magnetism? It hurts to type this, but Beebe and FOX really might be onto something here that could extend the conference’s viable lifespan by ... well, by slightly more than the ten months we predicted it would last without Nebraska and Colorado. (Maybe!)
Big 12 Deal With FOX Could Net Conference $60 Million, Empower Marching Bands Everywhere
Sports Business Daily has the details of a deal in the works that could triple the Big 12’s television revenue intake, a $60 million deal with the FOX family of networks. Also on the table is a hatchling plan to create some reasonable facsimile of a conference-specific channel dedicated to the programs that don’t have individual television deals in the works already (those would be Texas and Oklahoma).
We have but one caveat: Are there provisions in place to limit the number of shots per game FOX is allowed to show of the band, missing in the process crucial plays actually taking place on the football field? We hear Big 12 types are rather partial to being able to see their sports.
