How hath the mighty fallen in the Fulmer Cup standings: the Alabama Crimson Tide, once a leading name in entertaining player crime, now must content itself with Mark Barron being arrested for "second-degree hindering of prosecution." Somewhere, Jimmy Johns lights up a cigarette and reflects on the plummet of his team since his own arrest for selling cocaine in the football complex parking lot.
The trouble Alabama's leading tackler finds himself in stems from lying to police about his cousin's involvement in a car accident in his hometown of Mobile:
Alabama’s Mark Barron Arrested For Dumbest-Sounding Crime
Police say after they learned about Lang's involvement, they gave Barron every opportunity to change his story. The arresting officer says he begged Barron to tell the truth, showed him the law about hindering prosecution and explained he would have to arrest him if Barron continued to cover for his cousin. Police say they even got Barron's mother and grandmother to try and convince him. But Barron refused to admit his cousin was driving the car.
Barron, noted cheekily by our own Roll Bama Roll as "presumably a first-time offender," has since been released on bond. Roll Bama Roll, again: "Well, never let it be said that Mark Barron is a snitch."
