Last year, our Maryland blog posited that, with the help of generous alum and Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank, the Terrapins were poised to become the Oregon of the east coast, sartorially speaking. This year, according to what we’re hearing out of the university, various space-age stretchy fabrics will combine to elevate the Terps (and UA) to the lofty environs of Phil Knight and the Ducks:

“Under Armour has helped us come up with new images to highlight the State of Maryland and the university,” athletic director Kevin Anderson said Monday. “I truly believe that when we come out with a Maryland brand, it will be second to none. It will directly compete with Nike and what Nike does for Oregon.”
As staunch proponents of anything that jacks up the spectacle of college football, we could not be more thrilled. Longtime readers will recall our fevered desire for a pair of football gloves that can form glistening turtle maws when used as hand puppets. Our sincere thanks to Under Armour for inching our dream (like a turtle, geddit??) that much closer to form-fitting reality.
