You will remember that, at least in the eyes of some some media commentators, it was critical that the new coach in Ann Arbor be a “Michigan Man.” And what better Michigan Man could there be than Brady Hoke, who had been a Wolverines assistant from 1995-2002 and had some measure of success recently with perpetual underdogs Ball State and San Diego State?
Brady Hoke Calls Jim Tressel ‘A Quality Guy,’ Then Goes Even Further
But today, the new Michigan head coach called besieged Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel, under scrutiny for lying to the NCAA, “a quality guy.” That’s bad enough. Hoke then took things a step further by saying something Bo Schembechler would never say for so many, many reasons.
“He’s a dag-gone good football coach,” Hoke said of Tressel. “You know, I don’t know that situation, and I do know what we’re focused on here at Michigan.”
First, it’s hard to see Bo publicly saying anything complimentary about the coaching prowess of the Buckeyes’ coach, even though he and Woody Hayes certainly respected each other. But even if he did, it’s almost impossible to think of Bo using an adjective like “dag-gone.” A similar one, perhaps ...
