TCU’s 2011 Football Uniforms Display Rare Nike Restraint, No Frogs

It’s all right to admit right off that TCU’s new 2011 football uniforms can’t hold a candle to their Rose Bowl getups. The lines are cleaner, to be sure, especially for Nike jobs, and the numbers font is visually interesting without being distracting -- and unlike the postseason unis, these are at least noticeably purple on first glance. The subtle reptilian pattern is also a nice touch, but O, Nike! What of the helmets? The little horned frog on every player’s head with the rose clenched in its tiny teeth was the aesthetic highlight of the 2010 college football postseason, and now nary a critter is to be seen. And we hate to ask again after being brutally rebuffed year after year, but is it really too much to ask that the helmets squirt blood upon collision? We’re sure this was just an honest oversight, and look forward to its immediate correction. Thanks so much.
